Estimated Materials Fee: $30 to $45.00-depending on final project Maximum Class size: 14
In this three day workshop, you will create a sample book of ideas by experimenting with various silks, linen, wool, cotton and synthetic fabrics as both a base and surface effect in your handmade wool felt. You will learn how fabric and fiber choices can add sheen, texture, pattern, color and drape to a felt fabric and how to control layout and shrinkage to get very light weight but durable fabrics. Add resists, pre-felt, thick yarns and other elements between felt and fabric for dramatic textural effects. In the second half of the workshop students will choose one or two techniques and design/complete a project of their own such as a shawl or scarf or yardage for future use as a vest or jacket panels.
