Explore the depth, rich color, and tactile surfaces of this versatile beeswax-based ancient medium. During this intensive journey, each day will build on the knowledge gained the previous day. We will learn about history, equipment and tools, building a foundation, color selection and uses, and making a painting. We will learn methods of altering surfaces, drawing, and collage, and then move into the study of encaustic monotype, including use of hotbox, techniques, and surfaces. We will conclude with methods of presentation and care, critique, group discussion, and information on studios and galleries.
